Privacy policy

This policy explains how Houzie ("Houzie", "we", "us") collects and uses personal information when you use houzie.co.uk. We are the data controller for this information under UK data protection law (UK GDPR and the Data Protection Act 2018).

What we collect

  • Business listings: the business name, contact name, phone number, email, website, address, description, logo and areas covered that you submit. Most of this is published on your public profile. Your address is only published if you ask us to show it.
  • Accounts: if you sign in, your email address, the name you give us and when you last signed in. We use your email only to send you sign-in links and, if you're a trader, to link you to your listing.
  • Reviews: your name, email address, star ratings, review and the work you say was done. Your name, ratings and review are published. Your email address is never shown publicly.
  • Review invitations: if a business invites you to review them, they give us your name and email address and we send you one email with a link. We don't use your details for anything else.
  • Enquiries to businesses: when you send a business an enquiry, we email your name, email address, postcode, any phone number you give and your message to that business, so they can reply to you. We keep a copy for 12 months to deal with problems and prevent spam.
  • Contact form messages: your name, email address and message.
  • Technical information: the IP address of the device used to submit a review, which we use to prevent spam and abuse. We use a single essential cookie to keep forms secure. We don't use advertising or tracking cookies.

How we use it

We use this information to run the directory, publish listings and reviews, reply to messages, and prevent fraud and abuse. Our lawful bases are our legitimate interests in running a useful and trustworthy directory and, for businesses that list with us, taking steps at your request to provide the listing.

Sharing

We don't sell personal information. Information in published listings and reviews is public. Our website host stores our data securely on our behalf. We may share information if the law requires us to.

How long we keep it

We keep listings while they're live and for up to 12 months after they're removed. We keep reviews while the listing they relate to is live, and contact messages for up to 24 months.

Your rights

You can ask us for a copy of your information, ask us to correct or delete it, or object to how we use it. To do this, contact us or email info@houzie.co.uk. If you're unhappy with how we handle your information, you can complain to the Information Commissioner's Office at ico.org.uk.
